At the moment, I’m currently stationed in 29 Palms, CA. About fifteen minutes away from the Marine Corps base, there lies Joshua Tree National Park. It’s like a gateway to a different world.
In July, Orange County was having some quirky weather; there were overcast days mixed with warm temperatures and bipolar storms. Everyone of my friends in Orange County was freaking about the weather and complaining about the rain. I love the rain and dearly miss it. It’s easily my favourite type of weather. On July 15th, the crazy weather came to the high desert and I immediately dropped everything I was doing.
Like I said, it is a gateway to a different world. In the Park, I was greeted by a serene rocky landscape just reaching out to me to be explored. I remember as if it was yesterday. When I stepped out of my car, I closed my eyes and took in a deep breath. I just love the fresh smell of rain and the air is clean. When I opened my eyes again, I was simply mesmerized by the scenery. Each Joshua tree, cloud patterns, and rock formations were unique and they were beautiful. It is definitely something you have to see with your own eyes. There is nothing like it.
There were some amazing sights, especially from an elevated point of view. I climbed a few of the rock formations and as I gaze upon the desert before me, I felt as if I was on top of this faraway world that seems only exist in a dream.
See what I mean? I’ve received an overwhelming response to these photos, which is awesome. I sold a modest number of prints of the last one. They hold a lot of sentimental value to me. As I was capturing these surreal vistas, I took some time to pray. There’s just something about being in a place like this where no one is there except you and God. I felt so connected to my Heavenly Father and the majesty that He has created in front of me. Others celebrate through song, music, or whatever their own way is. Photography is how I see the world and how I can truly worship. I wouldn’t have it any other way. This is me, how He made me, and who I am.
